“most importantly love
like it’s the only thing you know how
at the end of the day all this
means nothing
this page
where you’re sitting
your degree
your job
the money
nothing even matters
except love and human connection
who you loved
and how deeply you loved them
how you touched the people around you
and how much you gave them”

I met Bernato & Simoné in February for their engagement session in a fieldy area just outside of the city. We had a little hike, talked until the sun was ready, and started shooting some of my favourite photos in a long time.
Since lockdown started in March, I was so desperate to do something different, pandemic-friendly and fun, while maintaining a social distance, haha. Simoné and I started working on an epic project, their own civil city celebration. They are only getting married in October, but this just made it so much more exciting! We got up really (really) early, drove to Pretoria city centre and started shooting in about 5 degrees and soft rain ( fo’ real), it was so damn cold and the weather was weird but so freaking beautiful. They danced in the empty streets, got congratulated by those cray early-morning runners, and ran through a colony pigeon.
Best. Thing. Ever. (plus, they did not get sh** on, which was great)
A few days later, we found a quiet bridge over the highway and a nearby field and did the same thing again – this time with sun, some wind, and the cutest letters they wrote each other a few years back. Literally crying. It was so good.
In a few months we’ll be celebrating their wedding so keep an eye out, it’s going to be gooood!
Thanks to Missy Makeup Artist for highlighting Simoné’s perfect features + for Bosskart for the epic bouquet. What a team!
Enjoy!
